Major Motion Picture based on Dark Alliance and starring Jeremy Renner, "Kill the Messenger," to be be released in Fall 2014 In August 1996, Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist Gary Webb stunned the world with a series of articles in the San Jose Mercury News reporting the results of his year-long investigation into the roots of the crack cocaine epidemic in America, specifically in Los Angeles. The series, titled “Dark Alliance,” revealed that for the better part of a decade, a Bay Area drug ring sold tons of cocaine to Los Angeles street gangs and funneled millions in drug profits to the CIA-backed Nicaraguan Contras. Gary Webb pushed his investigation even further in his book, Dark Alliance: The CIA, The Contras, and the Crack Cocaine Explosion. Drawing from then newly declassified documents, undercover DEA audio and videotapes that had never been publicly released, federal court testimony, and interviews, Webb demonstrates how our government knowingly allowed massive amounts of drugs and money to change hands at the expense of our communities. Webb’s own stranger-than-fiction experience is also woven into the book. His excoriation by the media—not because of any wrongdoing on his part, but by an insidious process of innuendo and suggestion that in effect blamed Webb for the implications of the story—had been all but predicted. Webb was warned off doing a CIA expose by a former Associated Press journalist who lost his job when, years before, he had stumbled onto the germ of the “Dark Alliance” story. And though Internal investigations by both the CIA and the Justice Department eventually vindicated Webb, he had by then been pushed out of the Mercury News and gone to work for the California State Legislature Task Force on Government Oversight. He died in 2004.

Now a major motion picture starring Jeremy Renner! Kill the Messenger tells the story of the tragic death of Gary Webb, the controversial newspaper reporter who committed suicide in December 2004. Webb is the former San Jose Mercury News reporter whose 1996 "Dark Alliance" series on the so-called CIA-crack cocaine connection created a firestorm of controversy and led to his resignation from the paper amid escalating attacks on his work by the mainstream media. Author and investigative journalist Nick Schou published numerous articles on the controversy and was the only reporter to significantly advance Webb's stories. Drawing on exhaustive research and highly personal interviews with Webb's family, colleagues, supporters and critics, this book argues convincingly that Webb's editors betrayed him, despite mounting evidence that his stories were correct. Kill the Messenger examines the "Dark Alliance" controversy, what it says about the current state of journalism in America, and how it led Webb to ultimately take his own life. Webb's widow, Sue Bell Stokes, remains an ardent defender of her ex-husband. By combining her story with a probing examination of the one of the most important media scandals in recent memory, this book provides a gripping view of one of the greatest tragedies in the annals of investigative journalism.

From the man 60 Minutes called "America’s top undercover cop" comes a gripping companion to his bestselling books, Deep Cover and The Big White Lie. Drawing on the most dangerous deep cover assignment of his DEA career, TRIANGLE OF DEATH, is a mystery/thriller that takes the reader undercover on the international hunt for those responsible for the torture and murder of his former partner. Publisher’s Weekly said TRIANGLE OF DEATH was "as mean and rapid-fire as dope dealer’s Uzi." New York Times called it "compellingly authentic." At the heart of the novel is a drug called the White Queen: super-potent, orgasmic, and immediately addictive. The cartel wants it, the Mafia will push it, terrorist cells will kill for it, and corrupt regimes will trade anything—oil, guns and death—for the cash it will generate. But one man, rogue undercover agent Michael Levine, has found a white queen of his own, the beautiful woman at the heart of an impenetrable organization known as "The Triangle of Death." She is the daughter of an escaped Nazi Paraguayan drug lord, the lover of a beautiful young man, and the mastermind behind a deadly conspiracy. And she knows that Levine is not who he says he is. Now, to save his own cover, he must kill for her. From South America to the Middle East to Monte Carlo, Triangle of Death is the white knuckle, thrill-a-second race through an explosive underworld where deals are made with multi million-dollar down payments, identities are guarded, stolen and smashed –and the most dangerous players of all are the ones you dared to trust.

Gary Webb had an inborn journalistic tendency to track down corruption and expose it. For over thirty-four years, he wrote stories about corruption from county, state, and federal levels. He had an almost magnetic effect to these kinds of stories, and it was almost as if the stories found him. It was his gift, and, ultimately, it was his downfall. He was best known for his story Dark Alliance, written for the San Jose Mercury News in 1996. In it Webb linked the CIA to the crack-cocaine epidemic in Los Angeles during the Iran Contra scandal. His only published book, Dark Alliance is still a classic of contemporary journalism. But his life consisted of much more than this one story, and The Killing Game is a collection of his best investigative stories from his beginning at the Kentucky Post to his end at the Sacramento News & Review. It includes Webb's series at the Kentucky Post on organized crime in the coal industry, at the Cleveland Plain Dealer on Ohio State’s negligent medical board, and on the US military’s funding of first-person shooter video games. The Killing Game is a dedication to his life’s work outside of Dark Alliance, and it’s an exhibition of investigative journalism in its truest form.

The truth about the remaining dark secret of the Iran-Contra scandal- the United States government's collaboration with drug smugglers. Powderburns is the story of Celerino Castillo III who spent 12 years in the Drug Enforcement Administration. During that time, he built cases against organized drug rings in Manhattan, raided jungle cocaine labs in the Amazon, conducted aerial eradication operations in Guatemala, and assembled and trained anti-narcotics units in several countries. The eerie climax of Agent Castillo's career with the DEA took place in El Salvador. One day, he recieved a cable from a fellow agent. He was told to investigate possible drug smuggling by Nicaraguan Contras operating from the ilpango air force base. Castillo quickly discovered that Contra pilots were, indeed, smuggling narcotics back into the United States - using the same pilots, planes, and hangars that the Central Intelligence Agency and the National Security Council, under the Direction of Lt. Col. Oliver North, used to maintain their covert supply operation to the Contras.

The Big White Lie, by New York Times best-selling author and former DEA undercover agent, Michael Levine, is a fly-on-the-wall look at the top-secret deep cover operation that ripped the lid off CIA sabotage of the War on Drugs. The New York Times described the book as a “hair-raising” non-fiction book that “moves with the speed of a first-rate thriller.” Publishers Weekly gave it a starred review calling it a “shocking exposé.” Follow Levine, called “America’s top undercover agent” by 60 Minutes, into the world of ruthless drug barons, kill-crazy assassins, secret police and corrupt government officials. The trail leads to the breathtakingly beautiful woman whom Pablo Escobar called "The Queen of Cocaine” – Sonia Atala. Levine, posing as Sonia’s lover, barely escapes the operation with his life but not before learning that America’s true enemies in the War on Drugs are not found in the jungles of South America but in the basements and back rooms of CIA headquarters. Operation Hun begins when Sonia Atala, deemed too powerful by the male dominated-cocaine aristocracy, is targeted for death. She strikes a secret deal: in return for protection, she will give DEA its first look into the inner workings of the organizations controlling the gusher of cocaine pouring into the US. Levine, posing as Sonia’s half-Sicilian, half-Puerto Rican Mafioso lover and business partner, is now targeted by her enemies. Supplied with a mansion, a fleet of luxury cars, an undercover Mafia crew, and a planeload of cocaine as props, he lures them to his luxurious home to settle their differences on hidden DEA video. It should have been enough evidence to indict those in control of the flow of cocaine into the US. But nothing was as it seemed. Levine discovers that Sonia has a secret: she is manipulating DEA with the help of covert and powerful forces in the US government to selectively destroy her enemies while leaving the cocaine pipeline intact. Read The Big White Lie and experience the darkest secrets of America’s War on Drugs for yourself—from one who has lived it. RECENT NEWS: During a March 3, 2011 world press conference, the President of Bolivia, Evo Morales, raised a copy The Big White Lie (La Guerra Falsa—the Spanish Translation) in front of news cameras proclaiming the book as one of the reasons he had banned DEA from his country. The photo of President Morales with the book in hand rocketed around the world. When interviewed, Levine said that if President Morales had really understood the book he would have banished CIA from his country and welcomed DEA as heroes. Now that the book is republished as an e-book, readers can decide the truth for themselves.

These days, most Americans know that the country has serious problems. Problems that will have to be addressed before the country can move forward. What are these problems? Where did they come from? Before we can move forward we have to know where we are and how we got there. American Heart of Darkness paints an unvarnished picture of the seeds of destruction that were sown into the foundations of the Republic from the very beginning. How did slavery come about in the land of the free? How did a pre-Columbian native population, in North America alone, of over eighteen million (yes, you heard it right) native peoples dwindle down to about two hundred thousand? Was it really Small Pox? Why has a people who constantly talk about freedom, democracy, equality, human rights, life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness continually practiced racism, genocide, and war? How do drugs come into the country, and who is really behind the most profitable product sold in the world? There are also other unanswered questions that need to be explored: Why were thousands of the worst Nazi war criminals given refuge in the U.S.? Who financed Hitler? Where did Hitler get his master race and genocidal ideas from? Was Lee Harvey Oswald a C.I.A. agent? Were Oswald, Sirhan Sirhan, Ted Kaczynski, Timothy McVey, and the Peoples Temple all mind control, MKULTRA, subjects? What really happened in the Jeffery MacDonald, so-called Fatal Vision case? How does hundreds of billions of dollars come into the United States every year without detection? The answers to these questions, and many more, will surprise you! They are not in the History books, although they should be. American Heart of Darkness, Volume I, explores the ugly side of America that has been hidden for far too long, and it is literally killing us. This book is not for the reader looking for an uplifting story to escape everyday life for a few hours. It is for true patriots who are sick and tired of being lied to and stolen from. It is for those who know they need to do something but do not know where to start. It is for those who feel powerless and that Americas problems are far too big for little ol me to handle. It is for those with the courage to go from darkness to light. As comedian and activist Dick Gregory once said, If you been in the DARK for so long, LIGHT will hurt your eyes. This book will hurt your eyes. The reader will be shocked, then angry, then motivated, and finally, in the authors next two books, empowered and liberated. It is better to see where we are and where we need to go, right now, before it is too late. Congratulations! If you have read this far this book is probably for you. Please keep in mind the universal truth that with any form of government, the leaders only have the power that the people allow them have. This was true in India when a little skinny guy named Gandhi with no money and only a rag wrapped around his middle took on the British Empire, and won! There is no question that the American people have the power to reclaim a government that is clearly not being run for them. We have to empower ourselves to take this government back from only a handful of selfish and greedy individuals, who have proven that they only care about making more and more money. Let us all stop giving them the power that belongs to us. Reading this book is a beginning, and then we will talk about what to do about it in the authors next two books!

When Kentucky Blueblood Drew Thornton parachuted to his death in September 1985—carrying thousands in cash and 150 pounds of cocaine—the gruesome end of his startling life blew open a scandal that reached to the most secret circles of the U.S. government. The story of Thornton and “The Company” he served, and the lone heroic fight of State Policeman Ralph Ross against an international web of corruption is one of the most portentous tales of the 20th century.
